Seasoning
Once the Sear’NSizzle® GrillGrate has come up to temp, cut an onion in half and rub it on the tops of the rails. This is the best way to season new GrillGrates. You can also lightly use high-heat oils such as canola oil, grapeseed oil, or duck fat spray on a paper towel. Do not use extra virgin olive oil as it has a low smoke point.
Warming Up Suggestions
For medium heat cooks such as chicken and pork, place the Sear’NSizzle® GrillGrate on top and turn the heat to high or medium-high depending on how hot your flat top gets.
To achieve max heat for the best sear on steaks and burgers, preheat the flat top on high heat first, and then place the Sear’NSizzle® GrillGrate.
GRATETIP: Place the Sear’NSizzle® GrillGrate on the flattest part of the surface and/or the hottest known spot for best results. To find the hottest spot
Cleaning
Unlike traditional grills, you may want to do a simple clean after each use. Soaking in hot soapy water will help remove major debris and excess oil. Use a scraper, scrubby, or GrateTool to knock off baked-on debris. Do NOT place hot Sear’NSizzle® GrillGrates into water. The shock will warp the grate.

I have a flat top griddle. It does a lot of things well including smash burgers. But if you have ever had a thick juicy hamburger patty cooked on a flat top griddle bathed in a puddle of grease, you know that it does not compare to a traditional grill where the juices drip down vaporize and infuse the burger patty with flavor. I got the Sear’NSizzle Grates for my flat top and did a side-by-side comparison with the exact same meat and patties made exactly the same. The results were amazing. I could not believe how much better the patty was that came off the GrillGrates verses the griddle. The “fried” patty was good, but the Sear’NSizzle patty was more plump, juicier and had an amazing flavor. In addition to the flavor improvement, the presentation was astounding. Look at the picture and decide what you would like to serve you friends and family. I like leaving a little part of the griddle exposed for sautéing onions to garnish the burgers.
I cook a lot of burgers at one time for Veterans. The great thing about using Sear’NSizzle GrillGrates on a flat top griddle is, in cooking an excessive number of burgers, there is an excessive amount of grease. Some of that sizzles up as flavor, and the rest is diverted down the grease drain with no chance to flare up into a fire and ruin the food. (I have an organization called Adaptive Water Ski Warriors. You can do a search to find our website if you would like to read more.) Our heroes deserve the best food, and so do you, your family and your friends.
I read some reviews saying the price was high. I believe that is not correct. Even if you do not take into account how much better tasting ALL food is off of GrillGrates verses other grates, these anodized aluminum grates should last and last and last. All other grates I have ever had have only lasted a few years.
